Choosing who gets your form messages

Set the one email address your website's forms send to, on your dashboard, and check it with a test.

When someone fills in a form on your website, what they wrote comes to you by email. You choose the address on your website’s dashboard, on its Settings tab. One address takes every form on your website, including any form added later, and a change takes effect within about a minute.

  1. Sign in to your website’s dashboard, as Your website’s dashboard says.
  2. Open the Settings tab and press Change beside Form messages.
  3. Enter the address under Email address and press Save.

The Form messages row shows the address and where it stands. It reads Updating for up to a minute, then On your website. From then on, every form on your website sends there.

When you save a new address, we email the old address and the new one to say so. If you ever get that email without expecting it, contact Stillsite support straight away.

Press Change, then Send a test, and a short email goes to the address you saved. If it has not arrived within a few minutes, check the address for a typing mistake, and look in your junk folder. You can send a test once a minute.

Each message is from your website, with what the person filled in. If the form asks for their email address, replying answers them directly.

If one of your forms asks for a file, such as a CV with a job application, the file comes attached to the message, and the message names it. A form takes PDF and Word files only, up to the size the form says, so nothing else can reach your inbox that way. A file of another kind, or a larger one, is turned away and the person is told what the form takes.

Until there is an address, the row reads Not set and the Settings tab shows a dot. Messages from your forms come to Stillsite support meanwhile, and we pass each one on to you. Nothing is lost.

A form sent from a preview of a change, or from your new website before your domain is connected, comes to Stillsite support too, never to your address, so trying out a preview never fills your inbox.

If your forms already send to different people, the row reads Looked after by Stillsite and shows no address. To change who gets them, or if you would like different forms to go to different people, ask through the support form.

If the row reads Coming soon, choosing where your forms send is not on your website yet, and your forms keep sending where they always have until then.

The website’s Owner can set or change the address: the levels are in Who can see and change your website. Only they see the Settings tab; anyone else who can see the dashboard does not.

It cannot be changed by emailing Stevie. It is set on the dashboard alone, by someone signed in with that access, so nobody can redirect your enquiries with an email.
