Your billing page
Where you see what each of your websites is on and what it will cost, turn Stevie on or off, set up a Direct Debit or add a card once billing starts, and see who your invoices are made out to and what has changed on your account.
Your billing page, headed Billing for your business’s name, shows what your business pays for each of its websites, how it is paid, who the invoices are made out to, and what has changed on your account. Once you are paying, its first line says how much a month and how.
Who sees it
Section titled “Who sees it”Your website’s Owner sees the whole page and looks after it: every website of your business, how you pay, your business’s details and the activity. Nobody else sees it. Who can see and change your website says who has which level.
Getting there
Section titled “Getting there”Sign in to your dashboard, press your name at the top right, and choose Billing. On a phone your initials stand in for your name. If you look after more than one business, the menu has a Billing for each, with its name. On a website’s Settings tab, the Your plan row says what the website is on, and See billing opens the page too.
When billing starts
Section titled “When billing starts”Nothing is billed until we start your billing, when your website is ready and we have agreed your plan with you. We email your website’s Owner that day, and ask for a card or Direct Debit within two days. Nothing is taken until one is added, and your website stays up whatever happens. There is no free trial: the first month is due on the day the card or Direct Debit is added, and then each month on that day, for a twelve month term that renews each year.
What you pay
Section titled “What you pay”One row for each website: hosting, and the compliance pack if it has that, each with its price and when it starts. A website still being built is billed from the day it goes live.
Under each website, Stevie, your AI web developer says whether Stevie is on and on which pack. While he is in beta he is on, and free. Your website’s Owner can turn him off, back on, or onto another pack (Base, Extra or Max) with Change or Turn on. When the beta ends, his pack’s price starts for a website that keeps him on, with 30 days’ notice. A website whose billing starts after the beta starts on hosting, with Stevie off until its Owner turns him on. A change part way through a month is charged for the part.
Under a website with Stevie, People who can email Stevie lists everyone with Content, Design or Owner on it. The plan includes one, and each additional one is charged a month once the beta ends, free until then. People with Dashboard only are free. See people opens the website’s People tab, where its Owner adds and removes people.
Each month says what is taken, with VAT. Each website’s row also says where its billing stands: Not started until we start your billing, Payment details needed until a Direct Debit or card is added, Starts at go-live for a website still being built, Paying once its first month is being collected, Payment failed if something needs you, and Ends with a date if your billing has stopped, when nothing more is taken after the month already paid for. The prices are in one place, Prices, packs and tokens, and your billing page shows each website’s figures from the same list.
How you pay
Section titled “How you pay”Payment is taken automatically each month, by Direct Debit or card, once your billing has started. Your website’s Owner looks after it. Once billing has started, the panel says the day to set one up by.
The first time you set up a Direct Debit or add a card, a box asks you to agree to our terms of service on behalf of your business; the buttons wait until it is ticked. You only do this once for your business, and your billing page then shows who accepted them and when, under Your business.
We recommend Direct Debit for a website you keep for years: there is no card to expire, so a lapsed card never interrupts your website, and every payment is protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.
- Set up Direct Debit opens a secure payment page, where you enter your sort code and account number, and brings you back. The first month is collected from then: a new Direct Debit takes up to seven working days to clear, and you are told before each payment. Your bank statement shows the payments as Stripe, which collects them for us.
- Pay by card instead does the same with a card.
- Switch to Direct Debit, if you pay by card, sets up a Direct Debit in its place.
- Add a card: Direct Debit is for UK bank accounts, so a business outside the UK pays by card.
- Invoices and payment details, once a Direct Debit or card is on file, opens the secure payment page, where you change the card or Direct Debit, the billing email and address, and your VAT number, and download every invoice and receipt.
- A payment failed: the page says so and shows Update payment details. Once they are updated the payment is taken, and your website stays up whatever happens.
Your business
Section titled “Your business”The name your invoices are made out to, your company number, and your country, which decides the VAT on your invoices: 20% for a business in the United Kingdom. Your billing email, address and VAT number are kept on the secure payment page, and Change beside them opens it. Invoices go to your website’s Owner until you set a billing email there. To change your business’s name or country, ask through the support form.
Activity
Section titled “Activity”What has changed on your account, newest first: people given access or removed, a role changed, a website added or gone live, a plan changed, and who made each change.
